Wigadoo August: Osage County at The National Theatre

One of Broadway's biggest hits opens at The National Theatre for an 8 week run, this month.

Winner of 5 Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Best drama, Steppenwolf's production of August; Osage County by Tracey Letts is described by The New York Times as 'The most exciting new American play Broadway has seen for years'.

August: Osage County is about the large Weston family who unexpectedly reunite in Oklahoma, after their father's disappearance, their home explodes in a maelstrom of repressed truths and unsettling secrets. This new play unflinchingly – and uproariously – exposes the dark side of the Midwestern American family.

The play opens on Friday 21st November and is sure to book out quickly. If you are thinking of going with friends you can organise it with Wigadoo straight from the National Theatre August: Osage County website.

007, Licence to Wigadoo: Quantum of Solace.

November 7th sees the release of the cinematic event of the year, the must see 'Quantum Of Solace', the new James Bond movie.

It doesn't really matter who your favourite Bond is, the fact is this installment will be more action packed, thrill seeking and sexier than any of the ones before, as the British secret agent inevitably hunts down the bad guy, gets the girl, and saves the entire planet, all whilst seeking revenge for a previous betrayal, no doubt dressed in his Dinner Jacket.

It has already shattered the box office takings for a UK opening day reaching nearly £5m, and will probably go on to be the most successful of the year.

It's a great idea to go an see with your mates. So Wigadoo 'Quantum of Solace' and why not get into the spirit of things and pop down the cinema dressed as your favourite Bond, or Bond Girl.

Who wants to be ... with friends?

I've just come across the coolest idea which would be great to do with a group of friends.

It's a "dangerously spontaneous, democratic game show" called Who Wants To Be that's taking place near London Bridge in London on 7th November.

You get 200 people in a room and everyone chips in £10. The room then has to decide how they want to spend the £2,000 raised via a democratic vote.

Here's what apparently happened at the last one...

"Previously on 'Who Wants to Be', an audience of 100 very nearly voted to sack the host, end the game early and put their £1000 behind the theatre bar. Suggestions included collective ownership of a dog, guerilla gardening in the City of London, and burning the cash there and then. Eventually the audience decided to buy a woodland. Each audience member received a shares in a (very small part) two beautiful Welsh and Devonish woodlands to pass on to their descendents."

For more info, check out the site and then get your friends to go using Wigadoo!

Live like Henry VIII ... with your friends

I'd like to share with the world an amazing experience for groups that you might never have heard about. Thanks to the Landmark Trust, you can hire a cottage or appartment in Hampton Court, Henry VIII's palace, for the weekend. I did it last weekend with a group of friends and it was amazing! Not only do you live in a 16th century palace but you have the freedom to wander around the entire palace any time you like and you can attend any tour you like for free for the whole weekend. (I'd strongly recommend strolling around the castle in the dark around midnight ... it's nice and creepy!)

There are two options for where to stay. The one we stayed in was called Fish Court and was an appartment in the main palace sleeping 6. The other was called The Georgian House. It is a magnificant house - from Georgian times I believe! - right next to the main palace sleeping 8.

In terms of cost, it wasn't cheap as chips but it wasn't crazy money either - it was around £100 a head for the weekend. You have kitchens in the accomodation so you can take you own food and drink and just have a great time relaxing with friends in a unique environment.

It was a brilliant weekend and I couldn't recommend it highly enough ... definitely one to organise on Wigadoo!

Eurovision Spoof Set To Wow the West End.

A great musical show that has been brought to the attention of the Wigadoo office is EuroBeat.

Opening on the West End, starting on 4th September for 10 weeks, EuroBeat is a glorious parody of the Eurovision song contest with a twist; during each show the audience gets to vote for the winner by text message.

It stars Les Dennis and Mel Giedroyc, with a recorded introduction by Terry Wogan, and 10 contestants from different European countries perform in a riotous Eurovision style singing contest, which ends whichever way the audience decides.

It is bound to have hilarious consequences and is definitely not a 'Nil Point'!

Makes a great idea for a Wigadoo get together.

Karaoke with a touch of class

Karaoke is a bit like Marmite. You either love it or your hate it. But if you're in the camp that loves it and you're in North London then this week brings some good news. Lucky Voice are opening up a brand new karaoke bar in Islington this Thursday. (See map)

Lucky Voice isn't about watching a bunch of strangers singing badly, its about getting together with your friends in your own private booth and having a good old sing song. It's karaoke with a touch of class. And it's a great way to get a bunch of friends together to have a good time.

If you want to get a group to go to Lucky Voice, why not use Wigadoo to see who's up for it. Use this link to suggest it to friends in seconds.

Get your golf mates together

We came across a great golf community site this week. If you are in to your golf and like nothing better than hitting a round of 18 holes (and even occasionally escaping the country to do so), this could be just for you.

Golfshake has loads of great functionality. It lets you track scores and handicaps as a group and even helps you organise events. In addition it has a great directory of courses and an activity community site for any tips or advice you might want on where to play ... or, more importantly, how to beat your mates!

Great Idea for Adventure Race Fans

This sounds like great fun for those fans of adventure racing amongst you. For the Rat Race Adventure you first need to get together in teams of 3. They are run in lots of cities around the UK and will get you running, climbing cycling, kayaking and abseiling around your chosen city. The course details will be a surprise until a few hours before the race begins. Sound cool? Well you are not too late to get your team together to enter the Newcastle (30th Aug) Galway (6th Sept) or London (27th /28th Sept) events. Why not get your team and money together using Wigadoo and then book your place with them online. Do let us know how you get on!

Champneys for your next girls trip

Today we visited Henlow Grange one of the Champneys Spa resorts and it reminded me of what a fabulous place they are to visit with the girls. As we drove down the driveway through the picturesque countryside at sat looking out the beautiful gardens I couldn't quite believe that only an hour before I was butting heads with commuters at King's Cross Station in the morning rush hour. The last time I went to a Champneys resort was with my mum and 2 of my cousins for a birthday treat and it made me realise that it was about time I organised another trip maybe to another one of their resorts this time. They have loads of different types of packages depending on what you are in the mood for , with and without accomodation. It's also worth keeping an eye out for any group discounts. Looking at all the people chilling out in their fluffy white bathrobes made me feel desperately jealous! Going to have to Wigadoo a trip soon!

Social decision making made easy

We'd like to recommend another cool, new start-up that - alongside Wigadoo - can take some of the pain out of organising your friends.

Skimbit aims to take the pain out of social decision making. So if you have a number of villas that you've found and you want to get your friends to pick which one they'd like to go to, Skimbit can help.

Basically, you search the web like you normally would but Skimbit picks out the key bits of info and summarises the options. You can then share these summaries with your friends and they can all vote and comment on which options they like and why. Simple.

And if you don't want to use it to book a villa, you can use it to help pick a wedding venue, the film you want to watch or even a pair of shoes.

Although we have to admit to a slight bias, we still think its best use is when you use it to decide where you want to go with your friends ... before then using Wigadoo to go ahead and organise the group and get it booked!
